Short Bio: BVM, MSc, PhD in Veterinary Medicine . Mr Atuhaire is a Consultant at the TicVac Anti-Tick Vaccine Development Initiative, working on Quality Control protocols for Vaccine Production.
David holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (2006), MSc Molecular Biology (2011) and a PhD in Veterinary Medicine (2014) all obtained from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. David has over 15 years’ experience in research, industry and academia, the last seven of which have been Postdoctoral Research and at senior managerial level in Vaccine production. In academia, he was previously a Lecturer at Makerere University, Senior Lecturer and Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Kampala International University and a Senior Lecturer at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Sciences in Malawi.
He has previously worked on the Molecular Epidemiology of African swine fever a devastating disease to the pig industry. At TicVac, David participates in reviewing all TicVac-U lab designs, testing and production protocols, ensuring compliance with quality control standards, government safety regulations and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Outside the TicVac-U project, David has also worked on various projects on Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases in Africa and beyond especially on the East Coast Fever vaccine improvement and Molecular characterisation of Theileria parva in none traditional vaccinating countries.
His current research interests are geared towards understanding the epidemiology and control of Transboundary Animal Diseases with a bias in molecular diagnostics, Molecular Epidemiology and Vaccines.
He is a registered Veterinary Surgeon in Uganda and a Member of both the Uganda Veterinary Association
